Amaretto French Toast

Preparation Time
Ingredients
- 6 slices day old italian country bread, cut 3/4" thick
- 6 eggs
- 2 cups half-n-half
- 3+++ oz. amaretto
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- crushed or slivered almonds
- powdered sugar
- honey
Directions
- toast almonds under the broiler (watch closely - they burn quickly!)
- blend eggs, half-n-half, amaretto and nutmeg (as my friend Susan advises, taste the batter and add more amaretto if needed; some days we add more than others - Oops!)
- dip bread in batter and fry in skillet over medium heat
- top with toasted almonds and powdered sugar
- serve with honey or peach syrup
