Honey-Nut French Toast
from the kitchen of Nicole Jordan
Serves 4
I got this recipe from my friend Debra Winters - thanks Deb!.
Preparation Time
10 minutes prep the night before, 20 minutes bake time
Ingredients
- 1 loaf day old French Bread
- 3 eggs
- 1 1/2 teaspoons honey
- 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground cinnamon
- dash salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans, walnuts or cashews
- 2 tablespoons honey
Directions
The evening before:
- grease 2 9x13-inch glass pans. Slice the bread diagonally into 1-inch thick pieces.
- in a large bowl whisk together the eggs, 1 1/2 tsp. honey, cinnamon and salt. Stir in the milk and vanilla.
- dip the bread in the mixture, coating both sides. Arrange in greased pans, cover and refrigerate overnight.
In the morning:
- remove the pans from the fridge 30 minutes before baking and uncover.
- drizzle the melted butter over the bread slices, followed with a sprinkling of the brown sugar (I like to use a flour sifter or a sieve for this) and the nuts. Top with drizzling of honey.
- bake for 20 minutes. (I sometimes sift a little confectioners sugar on top when done)
